Midtown beer garden – Grand opening on Sunday, August 20th!

Expensify is deeply committed to supporting local communities, and our own neighborhoods are no exception. Just across the street from Expensify HQ in downtown Portland, we’ve been quietly working away on our latest endeavor: Midtown Beer Garden.

Incident response at global scale

Incident response at global scale

If you were trying to get shit done on your expense reports around 3:30am UTC on the morning of Friday 16th June, then you would have noticed we had a site outage. We want to share the details of our Incident Response, not just to enhance our own learnings and behaviors for next time, but to spread that knowledge with our community as well.

That's a wrap! 8 trends and takeaways from ExpensiCon: Bora Bor

ExpensiCon has always been a unique conference experience, but attendees were in for a treat as they descended on the islands of Bora Bora. In addition to the lifelong memories being made, our curated list of guest speakers and roundtable discussions provided everyone with new outlooks and learnings — and that was before attendees had the chance to exchange their own tips and tricks!

Scaling SQLite to 4M QPS on a single server (EC2 vs Bare Metal)

Scaling SQLite to 4M QPS on a single server (EC2 vs Bare Metal)

Expensify has an unusual technology stack in many ways.  For example, we don't use DNS internally — just configuration-managed /etc/hosts files — and it works great.  Similarly, we only make limited use of AWS — instead hosting our own hardware for the web and database layer — and it works great.  But most surprising of all is that we don't use MySQL or Postgres — instead using none other than SQLite — and it works great.

Automatically reserve and expense parking with SpotHero + Expensify

Automatically reserve and expense parking with SpotHero + Expensify

If there’s one task as tedious as using spreadsheets to track expenses, it’s trying to find a parking spot when you’re running late for a meeting. SpotHero eliminates that problem by making it easy to reserve parking in advance, so we’ve teamed up so that you can expense your SpotHero reservations with the click of a button.

Tracking distance? Now you can select a default category for mileage!

Expensify covers a variety of reimbursable and non-reimbursable expense types. With mileage being such a common form of reimbursable expense, we’ve worked to improve the functionality in order to make it not only easier for the user, but for the admin and for accounting purposes as well.

Howdy from Al and the Success Coaches! I want to take this time to share our newest feature, Automatic (yes, AUTOMATIC) Statement Reporting. Automatic Statement Reporting is a domain control feature that auto-creates and auto-populates a report with expenses for an assigned credit card in a given statement period.

Building the best expense report

Building the best expense report

This month marks the sixth anniversary of Expensify. In May 2008, David Barrett got the idea of a world where expenses reports don't have to suck. With this idea in mind he rallied the troops and founded Expensify, and for six years we've been experimenting with countless ideas on how to make expense reports not suck.
