How it all began
Before discovering Expensify, Redmond Accounting processed expense reports manually. Multi-currency expenditures added another layer of complexity. The firm’s founder, Laura Redmond, recalls, “Our clients’ staff were traveling all over the world using different kinds of currencies even on the same day and certainly on the same expense report. Expense reports were already laborious work to transcribe each line item one by one from Excel into QuickBooks, but a next level headache to convert each line into the right currency as well.” Multi-currency activity drove the firm to try out Expensify. From then on, there was no looking back. “We love Expensify’s ability to handle different currency per line item in a single expense report - that’s an amazing feature. Once we understood the improved workflow, even for US dollar transactions, it was unimaginable to revert to the old method. We’ve been strong advocates for Expensify ever since.”

“The QuickBooks integration is extremely important to us,” Laura adds. “Before that, our firm used Excel for expense reports and it was extremely tedious. Employees had to print to paper, attach their receipts and mark them such that the proper receipt would coincide with the correct line item. Then we would take the employee’s expense report and manually transfer each line item into QuickBooks by typing them in individually. That was probably the biggest time waster with Excel.”
Besides the QuickBooks integration, there were a number of other features that stand out to Redmond Accounting. “Since we started using Expensify, the amount of time it takes from creating an expense to getting reimbursed has been cut in half. The app has freed up our time to focus on other aspects of our clients’ needs,” says Laura.

Setting up clients
Different clients have different needs, and Redmond Accounting tailors the setup process to each individual company. “During our unique world-class client onboarding process we can do it all – evaluate, design, setup, implement, train, support, and customize Expensify for the business.” Laura continues, “When Redmond Accounting first adopted Expensify, our team created step-by-step instructions on how we use Expensify for functions such as reimbursement, company credit cards, specific approval policies, and more. Once the business is set up on Expensify, if we’re not processing the expense reports for them, then we provide access to our step-by-step checklists via our resource library, which is chock full of everything a business needs to run a successful accounting department using web based apps. This ensures work is performed using best practices consistently and effectively every time.”
