How does Expensify’s budgeting tool work?

Expensify’s budget feature lets admins set budgets either monthly or annually for their organizations. You can set budgets for specific expense types like travel or meals, for the organization as a whole, and for specific teams, departments, or employees. You can also select when you want to be notified – for example, when the budget is 50% or 75% spent.

How to set category budgets in Expensify

Company admins can set budgets for specific categories of spend.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Workspaces

  2. Click on Categories > Select a Category > Edit rules

  3. You’ll see a section at the top called Budget

  4. Click Enable and input your desired settings

How to set budgets for locations or departments in Expensify

Admins can set budgets for any tag, such as location or department.

  1. Navigate to Settings > Workspaces

  2. Click on Tags

  3. Click on Edit Budget
